I never expected one impulsive decision to change everything…
In 2022, after separating from my husband, I was trying to work out what came next. One evening, while scrolling Instagram, a post caught my eye:
"Join us on the trip of a lifetime to Antarctica."
Within half an hour, I'd paid the (non-refundable!) deposit and had committed to a trip I’d wanted to do for years, but never thought would actually happen.
Looking back, I'm still not entirely sure what came over me!
I had so many reasons why I shouldn’t go.
It was too far. Too expensive. Way outside my comfort zone. I'd never flown long-haul on my own before, and the thought of travelling to the other side of the world without knowing anyone felt daunting.
What if I hated it?
What if I felt lonely?
What if it was an insanely expensive mistake and I wasted all that money?
Even after paying the deposit, I wondered whether I'd completely lost the plot.
But something kept telling me that if I didn't go, I'd always wonder "what if?"
So I went.
And it turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made.
That trip introduced me to a world I'd never imagined. The wildlife. The scenery. The freedom. And, of course, the people.
I realised that travelling solo doesn't mean travelling alone, and I came home with a confidence I'd never expected.
But what surprised me most happened after I got home.
The more I shared photos and stories, the more people said the same thing.
"I'd love to go there..."
"I wish I was as brave as you. I wouldn’t feel confident going on my own."
"It all seems so complicated to organise."
"I'm worried about what to take."
"What about the Drake Passage? Aren't the storms awful?"
I recognised every single one of those worries because I'd had them too.
That's when I realised there were lots of people dreaming about visiting these incredible places, but for one reason or another didn’t feel confident booking them.
So I approached the expedition company I'd travelled with and asked if we could work together.
That was the start of Wandering Travel Tribe.
Today, I partner with some of the world's leading expedition operators to help people experience some of the most extraordinary places on Earth. Whether it's Antarctica, Greenland, the Arctic or an African safari, my aim is to take away as much of the uncertainty as possible, so you can focus on the adventure itself.
I'm not interested in selling trips for the sake of it.
If I'm recommending an expedition, it's because I would (and do!) happily spend my own money to go on it myself.
I work with companies I trust, choose itineraries I'm excited to join and am with you every step (and wave!) of the way.
Many people who join these trips are travelling solo. Others come with partners, friends or family.
Either way, by creating a small group inside or a cruise or tour, you'll be travelling with people who share your curiosity and sense of adventure, and it's amazing how quickly strangers become friends when you're watching whales surface beside your Zodiac or standing on a glacier together.
